Laser Vs IPL hair removal

Soprano Ice

What is the difference between IPL and Laser hair removal?

There is often some confusion amongst our clients when it comes to understanding the difference between Laser Hair Removal and IPL.

Both treatments produce energy in order to disrupt the growth cycle of each hair follicle to reduce hair growth without damaging the surrounding tissue. However, this is where the similarity ends.

Here at The Park club Medispa we use laser technology for hair removal rather than IPL based technology, and the main reasons for this are:

Soprano Ice – The latest technology in hair removal

• Laser technology is simply much more effective , and achieves substantially better results than IPL. A 90% hair reduction in 4 – 6 sessions.

• Lasers are far more precise, and can selectively target dark, coarse hairs leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.

• Each laser pulse only takes a fraction of a second and can treat several hairs at a time.

• Laser hair removal can be used to treat larger areas of the body in a very short time.

• Laser can be used on all skin types and colours including dark and sun tanned skin and can be used all year round.

IPL

• IPL is a painful and less effective technology for reducing body hair.

• IPL can cause burns on darker skin tones and sun tanned skin.

• IPL’s are not lasers. The machines produce a broad spectrum of wavelengths (like a light bulb) and cannot be focused to a concentrated beam. Because a range of different wavelengths are dispersed at a variety of depths only some of these will be effective for hair reduction.

• You must avoid exposing the skin to the sun for about 60 days as the chances of burns are more.

• It is not effective on lighter skin tones and hair colour

• It can leave patches of tan on the skin as it damages the melanocytes-the colour pigmentation cells.
