DIFFERENCES AMONG INSOLES

It is important for you to understand the differences among available insoles. Orthotic insoles DO HAVE an impact on your feet, joints and body, and it DOES MATTER what kind of impact it is and what are the long term consequences.

What are the theoretical requirements from orthotic insoles?

1. They must be custom made for you. For this reason mass products are rarely suitable.
2. They must support your foot mechanics, correct imbalances at different points with different strengths. A single layer insole cannot deliver this differentiation.
3. They must be durable and resistant to mechanical stress, preserving its qualities during its life time (1-2 years maximum).
4. They either perform best during exercise or everyday use, but one single insole cannot give the same support every time. For this reason one needs a custom made insole for sporting activities and one for everyday use.
5. They must absorb shock when needed (sports or heavy weight).
6. They must be hygienic, antibacterial and washable.
7. It is good if insoles are hypoallergenic and have thermal regulation effects as well.

Mass product insoles

They are not made according to your unique weight distribution on your feet, so that they don’t support where needed.

Single layer custom made insoles

Although they are advertised as ‘custom made insoles’ they are a single layer quick fix moulded on your feet as they are. They don’t differentiate among different parts of the feet and the support is insufficient due to the single layer which is pushed down by your weight on the sole of the shoes.

Modular custom made insoles

Modular custom made insoles are built from different modules completely custom made to your needs. The manual production is based on a podoscopy scan, where the differences from normal are visible. The modules are selected according to following points:
- base module: the base module is selected for the purpose of the insole. A different base is used for sport purposes (ie. Noene) and a different one is used for everyday use or according to the required thickness of the insoles.
- flexible modules: different flexible pads are used at different parts of the insole to give the best support and stabilization required for the correction. There are differences in the flexibility of the pads too in case of sport insoles or ones made for everyday use. Also different shock absorbent layers (like poron or medical poron) are used when needed.
- cover module: the cover module is also important because it has to resist to the continuous mechanical stress, and it has to be hygienic and washable like Microfiber. Aesthetic appearance is also a good point.
