LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE

Discover the power of lymphatic drainage massage at Medispa. Our expert therapists use gentle pressure, specific hand movements, and advanced techniques to stimulate the lymphatic system to reduce swelling, enhance immune function, improve skin health and more!

What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

Lymphatic drainage is a type of massage that encourages drainage of the lymphatic system - a system that plays a crucial role in immune function, and waste removal in the body.

During a session, light pressure, specific hand movements and occasionally additional tools are used to stimulate the lymphatic vessels. The massage typically begins at the extremities of the body and gradually moves closer towards the torso throughout. Lymphatic drainage can also focus on a specific area of the body where there may be swelling or congestion to help provide relief in those areas.

What Does Lymphatic Drainage Do?

To understand what Lymphatic Drainage does, we first need to understand how it works! Lymph is a colourless fluid that contains white blood cells, proteins, and waste products. It circulates through the lymphatic vessels and plays a vital role in immune system function.

The lymphatic system usually collects and returns lymph to the heart through vessels and nodes. However, things such as illness can disrupt this process, meaning lymph pools in the extremities of the body such as your arms and legs, which can lead to swelling, discomfort and other symptoms.

“I literally feel like a different person!” shares one of our clients, Colette. You can watch her full testimonial below!

When you have a lymphatic drainage massage, lymph is then moved from your tissues back to your lymph nodes, which, in turn, helps reduce the swelling and any subsequent discomfort.

Collette is a regular Medispa client who has been having Lymphatic Drainage massage with us for a number of months now. She says “It’s made such a difference in so many ways,” when reflecting on her treatment. “As soon as I started with the lymphatic drainage, I just felt different,” she shares. “I just noticed that my stiffness was easing, my joints were feeling looser”.

What Are The Benefits of Lymphatic Drainage?

Lymphatic Drainage is not only a great way to relax and destress, it also has lots of benefits for the body! These include:

Reduces Swelling: Lymphatic drainage helps to reduce swelling by promoting the movement of lymph fluid from tissues. This can be particularly beneficial for conditions like lymphedema

Detoxifies: Lymphatic drainage enhances the body's natural detoxification process by assisting the removal of toxins and waste products from the body

Enhances Immune Function: This technique improves circulation which allows immune cells to travel more efficiently, helping the body's defence against illness and infection

Assists Post-Surgery Recovery: This massage can be used post-surgery to reduce swelling and promote healing

Improves Skin Health: The removal of waste products along with increased circulation supports nutrient delivery to skin cells which can give skin that extra glow

Reduces Pain: For some people, lymphatic drainage may help alleviate pain or discomfort associated with conditions like fibromyalgia or chronic inflammatory disorders.

Relieves Headaches: This technique can help provide headache relief, especially those related to tension or sinus congestion
